I’ve rarely seen such an ambitious film with such a small budget. It probably couldn’t afford the marketing it deserves, so every review helps spreading the word. A lot of effort, love, and inspiration went into this, and certainly not in vain. Now, the premise is nothing new; a bunch of young adults are lured in a deadly escape room. Saw and Cube started this trend. Many followed.
There’s awful dialogue coming from the mouths of bad actors playing unidimensional characters. The comic reliefs aren’t that funny, the heroes aren’t that stoic, and the fat guy is hungry. The compositing is abysmal. Whatever effects were used to make live camera streams appear covered by VHS degradation just doesn’t make sense, and it looks terrible anyway.
The creators would like us to believe that the protagonists are stuck in a reinforced maze, but we never get that impression. The walls look like they’re made of gyprock; the traps of plastic, and some mannequins are obviously people in suits. But this is part of the fun. These flaws do not ruin the experience at all. I had a good time, in fact, and I recommend it. It's so bad it's good!
